Through this new feature, all notifications are turned off, and a silent mode note is displayed in the profile status so that other users can see it. In the app, you can also set a timeline for this purpose. Contacts then know how long the person will be off the network, including through an automatic reply.
As mentioned above, Instagram introduced this function mainly for adolescents who often do not have the time they spend on social networks under control. On its official website, Instagram states: “Young people have said that they sometimes want to make time for themselves and are looking for ways to focus on studying and during school time. The hours in silent mode can easily be adjusted to fit their schedule, and once the function is turned off, a quick summary of notifications appears so that you can catch up on everything you missed.”
For teenagers, it can sometimes be easy to fall into the trap of FOMO on social networks, thus feeling the need to be online constantly so they don’t miss anything. They need breaks and to rest offline as well. Silent mode can help with this because, among other things, their friends and acquaintances will see that they are in silent mode and will not have the feeling that the person is ignoring them.
Even though this function was introduced mainly for young people, it helps all other Instagram users. Influencers, social media managers, and regular users thus have the opportunity to manage their online time more efficiently.
Instagram further notes that anyone can use the new tools, but they are not forced on anyone. However, if the app itself evaluates that a person spends a significant amount of time on Instagram late at night, it will invite them to turn on silent mode
